Flower, plant and holiday was a new successful service line introduced within Worksmith. The team was having trouble keeping up with the growing pace. They were operating large orders through an Excel spreadsheet and uploading to our scheduling system which took forever. Recognizing the need for efficient job management within the administrative portal, I designed the Manifest page. This page allowed the team to view real-time job details and data, employ comprehensive filters, export specific columns, and efficiently update statuses.

In the process of designing the Manifest page, consideration was given to the potential applicability to other service lines. This design was later repurposed for vendors to manage their own work orders through the Vendor Portal.

Manifest

Column sorting, filtering options and bulk actions

Given the extensive dataset, I faced many constraints with the engineers’ development efforts. We navigated through various compromises in the implementation of filters. Final iterations included type-ahead search and multiple select within the filters. Notably, we successfully integrated an auto-page refresh functionality into the system.

The development of the Manifest page for the vendor portal turned out to be a more intricate project than anticipated. The inclusion of vendor-specific data, such as the technician assignment field with live geofencing information, added complexity to the implementation.

In response to feedback received from the admin version, I made iterative improvements and, upon deployment to the vendor portal, initially released it to a limited number of vendor accounts. This phased approach allowed us to gather valuable feedback before rolling out the changes to all vendors.

Enhancements included providing vendors with the ability to save their column selections, ensuring that the preferences persisted across sessions. Additionally, a new feature was introduced to enable vendors to take action at the service level, addressing a specific request to extend functionality beyond the job level.

Adapted manifest for vendors

In this phase of the project, my focus was on crafting an intuitive pattern for vendors to access service level information. This included the capability to perform various actions such as rescheduling, creating or responding to change orders, adding instructions, and canceling recurring services. The development of these workflows entailed extensive research and numerous iterations to align with our existing system. The end result had a significant impact, as users expressed satisfaction with the comprehensive nature of the Manifest, consolidating all essential information in one location.
